The night of Thursday, May 30, 2024, was my first time to the upstairs main stage, home to where Lazer Quest and the original Dungeon sat down below us almost 20 years ago, where I saw Protest the Hero hit the stage for my very first time! This time, they were supported by Midwives, and Chinese Medicine. I was pretty shocked to see the barricade up and the massive 12 foot gap between the barricade and the stage. They had security pulling down anyone surfing, so of course they have to walk around to the back again.
the sound was shit
We were outside asking people what they thought of the sound in there as one guy was walking out ya hear “the sound was shit”. I heard two others talking about the mids and highs were alright, but needed more lows. I’m not much of a sound guy.. but it all seemed to be the same for all the bands that night. Not sure who is responsible.. the venue, or Protest’s sound person, or a combination.
Either way, to me I thought the band fucking killed it. I was never one to throw their album on, but would listen to it if someone else put it on. But after seeing them live, their talent and stage presence and performance live was incredible, tight and solid! Let’s crank some right now!
